The day after

This the July 5, 2012. I am off for several days and here I sit in a TDPS (Texas Department of Public Safety) office waiting for my son who is standing in the long line waiting to get a replacement dl. Maybe this waiting will help him keep up with his stuff, I just don't know. Seems to me that there could be a better way to do this since the State doesn't want to hire more folks to work here.

Yesterday was a good day , I smoked a beer can chicken, made some shells and cheese, mashed potatoes and Bush's grillin baked beans. My mother and sister came over and they brought a tres leches cake with them.

After they went home and it got dark we went and watched the Rockwall fireworks show and Morgan went to Pauls house to shoot fireworks off over the lake.

Two weeks

Well I have been over here now for almost two work weeks, and all I have done is paint, now it really would not be that bad if not for all the getting up and down when doing the cutting in. We started the ten hour days, four day a week work week two weeks ago and by the time Thursday morning rolls around my butt is dragging.

The first week

Well I made it through the first week at NW without too much of a problem. It should take some time to adapt to things, but it isn't nothing but a little thing. Getting a heads up on who the snakes are also helps out, there are those amongst us that are as Judas was.

Working at DISD

I have worked at the DISD since June of 1990. That is getting to be a long time and hopefully I shall be able to retire from there. When I first started working here I had some major adjusting to do as this place was unlike any where else I had ever worked in my then short working life but I adapted. Prior to DISD, I had framed custom house's, working for two independent contractors for ten years or so and while working for them I had aquired different tools, skills and knowledge in the carpentry trade.

Over the years I have worked in several departments and for several different supervisors, I have seen the upper management change many times and make decisions that just did not make sense to me but hey thats what they get paid the big bucks for but I adapted.

So fast forward to June 4, 2012. I am working in the Portables and Alarms Department, which was created in Feburary 2009 after BID was dissolved. Anyways, we were getting ready for summer, working a 10 hour a day, 4 day a week workweek. Monday morning I find out that once again our department was going to be dissolved and the four people in upper management would be losing their positions as those would be eliminated. Now those of us doing the grunt work would be spread out amoung the four maintenance quadrants. This will be a major adjustment for all of us, more for some than others and once again I shall adapt.

Too be continued...

Cutting and sorting

When i cut my coupons I put them in different piles. I put all my edible in a bowl and all the non edible in another bowl, then I sort my edible bowl into cold and non cold stuff, then sort from there. I use baseball card holders to hold all the coupons. I have a see through zippered pencil holder the kind that kids use in the binders, and when I am in the store I put the coupons that i am using in here that way the will get used and I don't have to dig for the coupons in the checkout stand.

Hanging clothes to dry

This is a thing . I hang my stuff out because it doesn't take much time, and saves on power, in the summer it takes the same amount of electric to power the dryer as it does the ac unit.

Down 25#

Went last week and weighed in and was down 25 lbs. That's alot of fat gone that I don't have to tote around anymore. I can just imagine looking at 25 lbs of  brisket, heck you cannot find a 25 lb brisket, you have to buy a 12 and 13 pounders, anyways 25 lbs is a big deal. I didn't starve myself, but didn't stay full either, I think for me when I realized that I would not starve to death if i had a small portion of food at lunch i did a lot better in dealing with any hunger that i have. For some reason Wednesdays are the worst days for me, this is when I am the hungriest of all week. Well I shall keep on .

Getting there

Went and weighed in last night, down 2.2 lbs. that brings the total up to 18.4 lbs, or I should say down 18.4 lbs. Man that's almost 20  lbs down, that's a lot of butter since I have been comparing my weekly loses to butter. That almost gives butter a bad name.

Last week I was up .2 lbs, I was thinking what's up with that. I had been doing the deal, staying with the program, I almost went and ate a hamburger over it, but I stayed with it.

Last weekend we went to Austin to watch the Rockwall girls basketball team play in the State finals, needless to say they lost. After the game was over we went to Lakeway, which is north of Austin to visit Tommy and Brenda. We spent the night and on the way home we stopped at the scrapbook shop, Artifacts because they don't have one in the DFW area, Applebee's and at the Czech stop in West.

Now if you have never stopped at the Czech stop  http://www.czechstop.net/home.php  could be missing stuff. They have the best ham and cheese puffs that I have ever eaten, I started eating these puffs back in the late 70's when we would trek to the Guadalupe River so we could canoe, kayak and inner tube the River. They still taste as good. I also eat the chocolate chunk cookies, they have slipped some in size and taste, but that did not stop me from getting a puff and 3 cookies. I don't get that way as much as I use to so diet be damned, I wanted to indulge.

To exercise or not

Monday was weigh in for me and I have lost 2.2 lbs this past week with the total being 16.4 lbs. I am thinking that this is going to be an average weight loss as long as I to what I am suppose to do, meaning not go past the Points that I am allotted.

I need to start exercising some, doing anything is better than nothing. I have a membership to 24 hour fittness but I always have some excuse not to go. I think I need to change my mindset to start going after work (I pass it on the way home) and at least try and make 3 days a week. I used to go 4 times a  week and I would walk a mile on the tread mill and then do the weight machines till I got tired.

I would keep track of what I did. I think that when I keep track of things I remember them better outright and I have a log book to double check my things with.

Lost a little more

Went to Weight Watchers last night for my weigh in and was not expecting too much, I went and had chicken fried steak smothered in Cheddar cheese and gravy, fries and pinto beans this past Thursday as it was my birthday.

Not really a good way to help with the weight loss but with WW you can still eat like this if you plan for it as I did, I also ate a ham and cheese sandwich with fries from Hooters Friday night, again some planning helped out again.
So it is really about planning the meals and keeping track of what I eat that has been helping lose the weight, oh and I lose 2.6lbs this week bringing the total loss to 14.2lbs.

Little by little

I went for my weigh in at Weight Watchers Monday and the scales topped out at 268 lbs. A loss of 2.8 lb, bringing the total loss to 11.6 lbs, it is not much on a fat man but an 11.6 lb brisket is a good size brisket. I say that because I compare the weight loss to food, since that's what created it to begin with, well that and being a couch potato. My loss this week was compared to 2.8 lbs of butter.

I have been keeping with the program so far this week which hasn't been easy when you throw in Valentines Day and my birthday, which is today. I am going out tonight and will most likely blow it, I will get back on it tomorrow. The way I see it, I didn't get this fat overnight and I will not lose it all in a day.

Still old and fat at 270.8 lbs

Well I went to my weigh in at Weight Watchers last night (Monday), and I was 8.8lbs lighter. Now I know that the majority of the loss was water, but it still a nice loss. I have been (tracking)writing everything down that I consume except for water, and I will start writing that down this week.

Doing this WW thing will be ok, I wasn't hungry but a couple of times and when I was it did not take much to make that go away. I almost cut fried food out but succumbed to hash browns twice and Hooters fries once. And the taste of sugar was almost nonexistent but the Superbowl happened and I fell for a slice of cherry pie and 2 brownies. Now this could of spelled disaster but they were all within my daily points allowance. I have also come to the realization that if I only have a small lunch that I will not perish, there is always a thought in the back of my mind that I will starve to death.

So in the time of a week I have figured out that if I write down all my eats that I am more aware of the things I eat, that I will not stare and perish and losing water weight is a good thing.

Old Fat Man

Here I am looking at a birthday, I will be 52 in 2 weeks, it is something that I had not envisioned when I was young. I thought that we might have a nuclear holocaust, then I started living a wild child life, anyways, had I known I was going to live this long I would have lived a healthier life. Well, it is what it is. So here I am, at 52(almost) yr old, weighing 279.6 and needing to make a few lifestyle changes.

We had a plumbing leak last week, where the water comes off the water meter a PVC fitting come unglued. Now this is usually not a big problem, you turn off the water to the house, you dig a hole, get the mud and water out, cut the old fittings off, slap on the new fittings, glue it up, wait a bit then slowly turn the water on. So I dig out some mud and use a hand pump to suck the water out and this is where things went south real quick, fat man issue #1, I would pump out the water and be so out of breath that by the time I caught my breath the hole had filled up with water from the surrounding area, (we had a record  1 day rainfall for the month of January). So then a dug the hole deep so that when the water filled it back up I still could work, now here is where fat man issue #2 is, I had to lay down to remove old stuff and was rolling around like a walrus, could not lay down on my belly because of the roundness, I had to do all the work on my side. Now at this point I made a plan to join Weight Watchers, I have lost weight 2 different times before at WW. So on the Monday, Jan. 30 2012 I joined for a third time.

I have been told by my heart doc that I need to lose weight as well as by several other folks in my life but it took a plumbing leak for me to do get with it. I made the plan and figured that if I paid $13 a week I might be able to stick with it, although I have a yearly membership at 24 hour fitness I never seem to have the time to get there. I weigh in on Monday nights and the first weigh in was 279.6 lbs
