Garage sale

We had a garage sale this weekend and it was really hot, luckly we have a carport and was in the shade. We had fans a going but then it just feels like that you are in a dryer. We got rid of a bunch of stuff for cheap. We will have another one when it cools down . We had some pretty good junk that we sold, and I have a lot more stuff that I don't need any more.

The heat in Dallas, it is soo hot.

Wow , it is so very hot out there, but I am soo over of it. I love Texas, I was born here and most likely will die here, but with all this heat, the mountains in the Rockies sure look inviting, and it doesn't matter which state they are in. Kinda makes a person miss the cold we had this past winter.
Snow behind our house this past winter
So for those that don't know or are always thinking "the thermometer is wrong, it is hotter than it is reading or saying" they are right. If they are in the direct sunlight, it is usually 15 degree's or more hotter than the temp they are calling on the radio, TV or your thermometer and that is because the temperature is taken in a shaded box sitting off the ground, it is called a Stevenson screen.

The a/c runs nonstop, the house doesn't cool down until 4:00 am and then it is too late or early to enjoy the coolness. The dogs don't go outside except to use the bathroom. I was going to blow some insulation in the attic, but that will have to wait until it cools down some which will be in October.

Morgan and I had been going fishing on Fridays (my day off in the summer) with Ronnie, but it is just too hot and that really bites.

I have never tried to fry an egg in the sun , mainly because I didn't feel the need to waste a good egg, but I think I shall try it if I don't forget.

The folks reporting the heat sound giddy when they say we are close to breaking the heat wave of 1980, everybody wants to be part of history, I don't, "Been there, Done that, Got that Tee shirt". It sucked then and it sucks now, probably more so since I am not acclimated to the heat. In the 80's I worked outside framing houses and now I work in a office in the a/c. The Texas Heat

Well it is July and since I have lived here most of my life, it is no surprize how hot it is. But it still sucks, it seems the older I get, the less I can handle it, I am just glad that I know how to deal with from working out in it for so many years because it can and will hurt you if you let it. So when you are outdoors, stay in the shade as much as possible, drink plenty of H2o and gatorade type drinks and wear loose fitting cloths and a good hat.

We got up early and went down to the creek and we both used minnows, we had 12 keepers here. We caught about 40 , most were crappie and under 10" so we had to throw them back, not much to eat on a fish that size. We are going back this afternoon/evening

Fishing In The Creek

We went fishing in the creek this afternoon when I got off of work, I met Morgan there as Peggy had dropped him off. I had picked up 2 dozen minnows he caught 6 keepers and I got 2. He likes using minnows, I don't. I guess I should quit being so hard headed and use them.

We didn't get enough for a good meal so we will have to go tomorrow or Sunday, good thing time will change.

Time To Fish

When hunting season ends, and all the gear is stowed, and the batteries are removed from all the radio's, flashlights, range finders and other things it's time to fish. We had to wait out the ice and let things warm up a tad and now it has. Not many biting bugs out yet. It is a wonderful time of year.

Morgan and me have hit the creek several times and not yet caught any fish that mattered. We need it to rain a bunch, almost to equal biblical proportions, our lakes are close to 4' low and we are usually full by this time of year.

We will go to the creek at least 2 to 4 times a week for the next month or so, at least till it gets to hot.

Birthdays Are Time For Reflection

From left to right: Donna, Mark, Barbee, Mother

It was my birthday last week , and on my birthdays I tend to think back on some old memories. Well I thought that I should put some of these old school pics out here. So here is my brother with a couple of friends.
We always had a little get togeather at my house at Christmas time, Good Time's and Good Friends
We would always go to the Guadalupe River on the Memorial Day weekends, we would raft, canoe, ride in inner tubes.I did this for about 13 to 14 yrs in a row.

Me and these two guys have been friends for many years, I learned to shoot a bow from Link, which I still do today, and I have been trying to get Morgan to shoot but he just hasn't had the desire to shoot much, so I don't push. I figure he will come around someday.

Here are some more of my friends, Eddie, the guy wearing the Mack truck hat, passed away in the summer of 09. We were friend for many years starting around 1974, Eddie and his brother passed within days of each other, Eddie from complications of diabetes, and Eloy from some kind of cancer. Well I hoped you enjoyed some of the pics, I know some who are in them might.

Monday After Superbowl

Well it is the Monday after the Superbowl and a week of ice. I really do not know how those folks up north deal with the cold and cabin fever, better them than me. So let's talk a little football shall we. Halftime sucked, it should have been a country show being's how it was in Texas, what were the planners thinking, halftime is for the fans, enough about that. As far as the game went, it was pretty good, and I am glad that Pittsburgh lost. Now let's talk ice, the week pretty well sucked also. If the weather would have been like it should have been , North Texas would have hosted a really successful  Superbowl and we would have got all the out of towners money. Now that's not to say that it doesn't snow and have ice storms in February because we do.

Snowed In

Feb. 1 2011 Ice storm who would have thought it, well I would. All one has to do is live here in Dallas for 40 years and they can figure it out. I got up to go to work and was driving in it at 5:30am and it was not really that bad, I was at the Walmart on I30 in Rockwall, that is where i meet the guy I carpool with.

He didn't show up so I called him and he was already downtown as he got a call to be in early in case of any water pipe busts (he is a plumbing supervisor) and he said that it was pretty bad out there, so I decided that I didn't need to go to work that bad as I don't make enough to cover the deductible in case I am in a accident.

I decided to gas up but the gas was $2.95 a gallon up from $2.82 last night, so I went to Tom Thumb's ($2.81) in Rowlett got gas then went into Tom Thumb and got  some bread and Dr.Pepper's and when I got on 66 to go back to Rockwall the road had about 2" of icy slush and it was getting worst.

With the sorry road conditions and cold temperatures, this will put a damper on the Superbowl festivities, hopefully we will get back to the weather that is easier to travel and party in.

Son's Birthday

Yesterday was my son's birthday , he turned 16. It was a special day for me and Peggy. We adopted him at birth, she called me at work, I was working at Lincoln High School it was Tuesday afternoon when I got her call. I met her down at Parkland in the maternity ward and there he was 9lb 9oz, 20'' long, we brought him home 3 days later.  I can't remember if I called my mom that night or at a later date. I can't remember when she called her folks, I know that her dad was there the following weekend, that little boy gave him a new reason to live.

I had not told anyone what was going on as I didn't want things falling through and for it not to happen. We got a call from one of Peggy's friend's several months earlier, Peggy was at a dental convention in San Antonio or Austin I think. The message was that her friend had a person who cleaned her house that had a younger sister that was pregnant and already had 2 kids, was not married or had a job and did not think that she would be able to give the care needed to raise another child. Now I shall say at this time that it has to be the ultimate sacrifice to give up a child, she was a very selfless person, and I can only say thank you and God Bless. I was still leary about the whole thing as nothing had been signed through the courts, which happened 6 months down the road, when that happened then all was good, nobody was going to be able to come back and say a mistake had been made.

Some folks will say that me and Peggy sacrificed to adopt, well that very well may be but it will never be the sacrifice that the birth mom made.

Game Day

Well I shall try not to ramble much. The teams have been set for the Superbowl, Green Bay and Pittsburgh, although I don't care for either one of them it is here in Dallas showcasing Cowboys Stadium (aka Jerry's World). this should really be interesting around here for the next couple of weeks. I just hope the weather holds out and we don't get any ice. Party On.

Another good thing about the game is that there are good grocery coupons, and it will be time to stock up on a few things.

Well one more thing, today is my son's birthday, he is 16, it is a scary age for me. He is a good kid, he loves to hunt and fish and play his PS3. He has a small 12' aluminium v-bottom jon boat with a 10hp motor on it.
